It was a busy, interesting weekend.
Saturday was the Annual Convention for the Manhattan Libertarian Party. While remaining a small “l” libertarian, I certainly appreciate the work the LP has done, over the years, keeping the ideas of liberty alive, (as well as the early, and continued, direct support of Dr. Paul during the last election cycle). Adding in that I had already connected with some of the group, (during the, nationwide, END THE FED!!! rallies on Nov, 22), plus the speaker line up, it was a no-brainer to go. So, I attended the Luncheon/Fund-raising program.
Two speakers, particularly, interested me: First, one of the lawyers who argued the Heller case, Alan Gura. (After meeting Dick Heller last spring, when he he was in preliminary talks about running for office, I was put on a mailing list that gave me a ringside seat to an issue I was out of the loop on). Mr. Gura presented an optimistic opinion that the Heller Case was a great victory for liberty. He said the move, now, is identifying all the laws affected by this decision, and going after them. He mentioned that arms were further defined as weapons a “regular” man would carry; rifles, handguns, etc., not LAWS and H-Bombs. In the end, the settling of the individual vs. collective right question, in favor of the individual, will do much to bring common sense to the continuing debate.
The final speaker was Adam Kokesh, The Revolutionary Patriot. Adam and I first got to know one another at the Rally for the Republic, since then we have worked on a few projects together and become friends. His speech was cut short, a bit, due to time constraints, and that threw him some, but as usual, it was a great speech. He talked about something a few of us have been mulling lately; how we need to work on appealing to emotions, rather than intellect, and how we can do that that by emphasizing the fact that our r3VOLution highlights love.

Ron Paul Revolution
Our movement, absolutely, is founded in love, and we can/should capitalize on that, (appealing to emotion) as we move from an intellectual movement, into a political one.
Afterward, we went out for dinner and drinks. A fine bunch of folk. Congrats to Isaiah on his surprise election (to him – lol) as Chairman. From what I gathered the LP is becoming a bit more pragmatic, and that is a good thing. The LP has been called more of an intellectual debating club than a political party, and there is some validity to the criticism. (I’ll, also, note that there are many 2%’er “clubs” of those who “get it.”) Perhaps it is easier for those in NY , as one may be a part of, and vote in, multiple parties. I wonder that other states could/should adopt those policies.
Finally, Adam and I talked quite a bit about his road-trip and future plans. It seems people are talking to him about a possible run in his home state against a freshman congressman… Hmmmm…
Sunday dawned with snow on the ground and a 60 mile drive to a Committee of Safety (CoS) meeting in Westport, CT. CoS has been started up by, a descendant of John Adams, Walter Reddy. It is an organization which is implementing the ideas of, Harvard scholar, Dr. Edwin Vieira as a mechanism for reigning in our gov’t. Anyone not familiar with Dr. Vieira should be pleasantly surprised googling his name. He is a brilliant, and personable, man whose integrity, and commitment to sound principles, reminds me of Ron Paul. I won’t presume to explain the concepts presented and invite anyone interested to visit the website linked above, and read for yourselves. He basically is working on monetary, and security issues. I will say that if anyone has a chance to see Dr. Vieira in person, I highly recommend attending. He is a good speaker, who makes sense, talking of serious issues / solutions
