Last Weekend

It was a busy, interesting weekend.

Saturday was the Annual Convention for the Manhattan Libertarian Party. While remaining a small “l” libertarian, I certainly appreciate the work the LP has done, over the years, keeping the ideas of liberty alive, (as well as the early, and continued, direct support of Dr. Paul during the last election cycle). Adding in that I had already connected with some of the group, (during the, nationwide, END THE FED!!! rallies on Nov, 22), plus the speaker line up, it was a no-brainer to go. So, I attended the Luncheon/Fund-raising program.

Two speakers, particularly, interested me: First, one of the lawyers who argued the Heller case, Alan Gura. (After meeting Dick Heller last spring, when he he was in preliminary talks about running for office, I was put on a mailing list that gave me a ringside seat to an issue I was out of the loop on). Mr. Gura presented an optimistic opinion that the Heller Case was a great victory for liberty. He said the move, now, is identifying all the laws affected by this decision, and going after them. He mentioned that arms were further defined as weapons a “regular” man would carry; rifles, handguns, etc., not LAWS and H-Bombs. In the end, the settling of the individual vs. collective right question, in favor of the individual, will do much to bring common sense to the continuing debate.

The final speaker was Adam Kokesh, The Revolutionary Patriot. Adam and I first got to know one another at the Rally for the Republic, since then we have worked on a few projects together and become friends. His speech was cut short, a bit, due to time constraints, and that threw him some, but as usual, it was a great speech. He talked about something a few of us have been mulling lately; how we need to work on appealing to emotions, rather than intellect, and how we can do that that by emphasizing the fact that our r3VOLution highlights love.

Ron Paul Revolution

Ron Paul Revolution

Our movement, absolutely, is founded in love, and we can/should capitalize on that, (appealing to emotion) as we move from an intellectual movement, into a political one.

Afterward, we went out for dinner and drinks. A fine bunch of folk. Congrats to Isaiah on his surprise election (to him – lol) as Chairman. From what I gathered the LP is becoming a bit more pragmatic, and that is a good thing. The LP has been called more of an intellectual debating club than a political party, and there is some validity to the criticism. (I’ll, also, note that there are many 2%’er “clubs” of those who “get it.”) Perhaps it is easier for those in NY , as one may be a part of, and vote in, multiple parties. I wonder that other states could/should adopt those policies.

Finally, Adam and I talked quite a bit about his road-trip and future plans. It seems people are talking to him about a possible run in his home state against a freshman congressman… Hmmmm…

Sunday dawned with snow on the ground and a 60 mile drive to a Committee of Safety (CoS) meeting in Westport, CT. CoS has been started up by, a descendant of John Adams, Walter Reddy. It is an organization which is implementing the ideas of, Harvard scholar, Dr. Edwin Vieira as a mechanism for reigning in our gov’t. Anyone not familiar with Dr. Vieira should be pleasantly surprised googling his name. He is a brilliant, and personable, man whose integrity, and commitment to sound principles, reminds me of Ron Paul. I won’t presume to explain the concepts presented and invite anyone interested to visit the website linked above, and read for yourselves. He basically is working on monetary, and security issues. I will say that if anyone has a chance to see Dr. Vieira in person, I highly recommend attending. He is a good speaker, who makes sense, talking of serious issues / solutions

Onward and Forward :)

The Creeping Emergence of Police States

An interesting conversation developed in LibertyForest yesterday. It was in a report from Roseville, CA. about the rising use of trash collecters, as surveillance agents.

One may think, on the surface, that this is not a terrible thing; that anybody stupid enough to leave evidence of a crime, where trash collectors can see it, truly is a danger to society. But, leaving aside the implications, (in a “nanny state” society where civil liberties are being buried under the weight of a burgeoning bureaucracy, empowered with, ever increasing, intrusions into our lives masquerading as law), we see one astute poster refer to history with the chilling post quoted here:

This guy in the article is a garbageman, not an agent. People have the jobs they have for a multitude of reasons, but suddenly in this case, someone who is not of an intellectual classification and is oft overlooked has suddenly become empowered and holds power over other citizens.

The message is this…If you report for the state, if you give the state what it needs, you can elevate yourself in social status. Tyranny has always recruited this way. Identify those of lower social position (due to deficits in personality, intelligence, etc) and empower them to work against others. In East German, the stasi had family members reporting on one another!

If the garbageman wishes to accept this responsibility he will now have to accept its consequences, or the consequences that go along with having this un-Constitutional power handed to him.

You will see in the next few months the exponential increase in this oligarchical tyranny.

I have had the luxury of touring Central and Eastern Europe. Anyone who has knows what the implications of our escalating drive towards collectivism really means.

In Budapest, if you get a chance to go visit the House of Terror. Also, visit Monument Park, the only place collectivism should ever be gathered And only for fantasy and amusement.

A good intro Article:

If you ever go to Berlin visit here. There is a great display of all the spying devices, films about social recruitment techiniques and methods and countless stories which mimick what we are seeing now:

(end quote)
Part of what I see wrong with America is an undeserved, “it can’t happen here”, optimism. People won’t even see the truncheon until it is quite late.

Obama’s Letter to His Daughters - translated

That the two of you have such winning smiles is immeasurably important to me. It only further validates my decision to keep the two of you, instead of exposing you in the woods like we did with your older, uglier sister. It is an indication of how much I appreciate your contributions to this administration when I say that I am glad I did not have you imitate Romulus and Remus. It would have been a grave loss, both for this country and my campaign.

On this note of supreme gratitude that I must ask a favour from the two of you. Naturally, the office of the president comes with a certain prestige and expectation of conduct. For my first term to be a success will require a dedication and sense of duty from all involved, including both of you. Like Hillary Clinton’s job is to smile menacingly at foreign leaders, and Rahm Emmanuel’s responsibility to threaten my opponents on Capitol Hill with bizarre acts of physical intimidation, the two of you are charged with an extremely important task. Though seemingly small and straightforward, I cannot overstate the significance of your role. Simply put, you must be cute.

Thus far, you two have performed splendidly in this capacity. All I ask from you these next few years is to maintain this course, improving whenever possible. It would please me enormously to see the two of you become the media darlings I know you are capable of being. The two of you have great potential to assume the greatest role of your lifetimes: America’s Sweethearts.

With charming giggles and adorable smiles, you are charged with capturing the hearts and minds of a country. On the strength of your dynamic duo, I will maintain my sparkling veneer, which is to everyone’s benefit. With your help, I can be a more effective president.

After all, a popular president is one who wields power in Congress. If the two of you continue your sparkling success, surely I will be able to execute on my promised expansions of government care and support of the people. Like Johnson and his landslide, I will have the political capital necessary to reshape society as I see fit.

If you follow this train of thought then, I believe it leads one to the inescapable conclusion that the two of you, so small yet so powerful, have the power to change America.

So girls, will you help me? Will you make America a better place?

Love,
The Man Who Comes To Dinner Occasionally, Your Father

PS: If you don’t answer this letter with a jubilant and adorable “Yes We Can!,” I’ll give your puppy to Eric Holder. You don’t want that, do you? I didn’t think so.

Thanks, Dubya! Bu-bye now….

From a member of Liberty Forest

Just to let you know, I did not watch his farewell address…nor will I ever.

Dear Dubya:

Don’t let the door…no wait, please let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Dubya…you dismal failure. You pseudo-conservative.

Thanks for the war. Glad cooler heads like yours were in charge after 9-11.

Thanks for the bankrupting of our country. Good job spending billions of dollars abroad while our bridges and levies are collapsing here!

Thanks for alienating out nation throughout the world. Nothing better than walking right into the middle of an anti-American rally in Enna, Sicily, Italy! Yep, it happened to me. I never thought I’d ever have to deny my nationality….I told people I was German lest I get my ass kicked.

Thanks for limiting freedom and making pharmaceutical companies rich by outlawing the purchase of cheaper medicine from Canada and other nations. How much did you make on that deal?

Thanks for the bailout. You can take Barney Frank with you to Texas and have him decorate your house.

Thanks for over 4000 of our people dead in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting an illegal, imperialistic war. A war fought not for the protection of Americans but for the protection oil companies’ and defense contractors’ bottom lines. All the while gas prices here skyrocketed and oil companies reaped record profits. Under your administration, the Military-Industrial Complex is complete. Great job, Mr. President!

Thanks for killing habeas corpus with the Military Commissions Act of 2006. We didn’t need that archaic right getting in the way of the war on terror, now did we?

Thanks for finding bin Laden…oh wait, did’t get that done, did ya??

Thanks for the Patriot Act, and the Department of Homeland Security - Hitler had the Reichstag fire, and you had 9-11. Your Nazi-sympathizer Grand-daddy, Prescott Bush, would be proud, you moron.

Thanks for usurping the Constitution with numerous executive orders aimed at limiting the freedom of Americans. Take THIS ONE for example.

Thanks so much for the FISA Amendment Act of 2008, and for tapping the phones of Americans without warrants, and then giving immunity to companies who violated the 4th amendment by releasing customers’ information to your fascist regime.

Thanks for signing into law a PAY RAISE FOR CONGRESS during a serious financial slow down, and after taxpayer money was used to bail out wallstreet while average citizens wonder if they’ll have a job tomorrow. You scumbag. You could have said no to that pay raise…you could have told congress to suck it up…

Mr. Bush, you claim to protect freedom when under your administration our freedoms have never been in more peril. Peril not from foreign enemies, or terrorists, but from our government itself!

Thank you so much Mr. Bush. Go back to Crawford and take some English classes you loser. You fake. Be sure to hire on some illegal aliens too. Don’t want to forget them….just make your property an amnesty zone and start your own little nonresident worker program.

Its too early to judge Obama, but you, sir, are the worst president in history. Its because of you that a man like Obama got elected. You helped and progressed the death of America as a free republic.

Thanks alot. Bu-by now….

Volunteer with YAL at CPAC 2009

This is copied from YAL - Facebook

Hello Everyone!

CPAC prides itself as “the largest annual gathering of conservative students, activists and policymakers.” Coincidentally, our mission at Young Americans for Liberty is to recruit, train, educate, and mobilize students on the ideals of liberty.

It is rare that such a large group of young conservative minds gather at one function and that is why we need your help.

The CPAC conference will offer YAL a tremendous opportunity to engage those who are friends of liberty, reach out to those who are not and let our presence be known to the conservative community. To this end, we’re reaching out for your help! If you’re in or near the DC area around the time of CPAC or willing to make the trip, we need all the volunteers we can muster!

I cannot stress how important this event is for the future of YAL and the liberty movement, we only have one shot at this, let’s hit our goal!!
